Updated website

In lieu of my recent absence, please find my paper cuttings arts and designs ready for purchase on my updated website Chau Art (click here).

This is the beautiful logo of the business designed by Lakita Chen, my colleague from university:

And here are a few samples of my works available for purchase on the website:

Anticipated, fazed and confused on the new role, but I am very excited on this new venture as my time at university has officially completed. It is time to embrace a new journey, and the starting point is my beloved country Vietnam from which I cannot wait to share our beautiful artistic tradition of silk embroidery to the Western sphere.

I thank you all for your interest in my works and endearingly hope my artistic business would achieve similar impact on you.

as the train leaves,
her eyes swelled deep with tears
of the dusts permeating from the train or of anguish,
no one knew...

Jane Eyre inspired

" 'I would rather be happy than dignified', Jane's words fluttered"
Graphite and papercut on board

to ephemeral

"she knit her thought under the tree
as a child, when asked
“When you grow up,
between career or a happy life with someone you love,
which would you choose?
The answer came out easy
no hesitation
no second thought
“I am not parasitic to any man”
Having grown up
she realized
it was the most challenging conundrum of all"

"Are you real, are are you ephemeral too?"

(the rest of) Beyond

And she realized the truth behind her bargainwith the
Seawitch and her predicament. The human legs, came with them
were the utmost bliss and curse that women are bestowed with.

She threw herself into the open sea. Then she realized, no one,
even the Prince, could possess her. Her spirit so wild and inflaming
that it would never succumb into living a trivial marriage life.
Once there was a dreamer who sought relentless adventures, and
she finally got her wish: as a wind, she travelled wherever she
wanted and landed wherever she thought worth visiting.

Although her toes oozed with pain, the Mermaid started
her enchanting dance under the divine crescent.

But there was something really wrong with the human world
For the first time the Mermaid was aware of her own nakedness.

The Mermaid's voice withered away and
she found herself grapsing for breath in the fathomless

beyond (4)

"Please make me become human. I have fallen for
one and until we reunite, my heart is tormented."
The price for a pair of human legs is her eloquence.
A voice lost is a personality gone.
But her heart was then blindfolded,
so she drank the potion at once.

What is there beyond my vision? The Mermaid sought
and sought through layers and layers of waterline
but saw nothing, and her heart was tormented.

After the storm, the ship never returned, causing the Mermaid even greater distress.
She no longer found interest in joining her sisters' relentless carol,
how demeaning and senseless they all seemed to her.

The Mermaid was a curious child, always yearning for the world above
and dreaming of the days she could take on her own ventures

little pieces of aqua

Here I present some finished double spread illustrations within my retold version of The Little Mermaid:

More interpretations and illustrations are to be frequently posted, so I hope these images have kept you intrigued.

PS. I am surprised "Blue Jasmine", "Inside Llewyn Davis" and "Enough Said" aren't nominated for the Oscars but they're sure my favourites this year.
